Feeding the Gulf Coast community garden program began in 2011 at the Main Branch in Theodore, Alabama with a mission and long-term goal to provide fresh, nutritious produce to our agency partners, educate the public about the benefits of growing their own produce and promote environmental awareness in the community. The program encompasses our on-site garden, educational workshops and resources for organizations in our service area to start their own gardens.
The Organic Promise: Behind our education garden we are growing food in 39 plots for our partner agencies: churches and non-profits running food pantries and soup kitchens. We prioritize organic methods in the garden-- using compost in place of synthetic fertilizers and integrated pest management instead of pesticides.
